Everyday, our hands take a toll because daily exposure to various kinds of surfaces, pollution, sunlight, harsh cleaners and detergents etc. It is really important to take care of your cuticles in order to have healthy nails. Nails cannot be repaired as they are dead cells, but if you maintain your cuticles in good health the nails will grow better.
Look at your hands..Are your cuticles dry and peeling off both around the nails? Do you have the habit of biting your cuticles? This will make the problem worse because when bitten, cuticles may bleed and nails have a tendency to get infected. The best thing to do would be to apply a nice, heavy, cream or oil during bedtime so that your hands are nourished. It is best to do at night because otherwise the cream/oil will get removed again by day-to-day activities and hand washing.
I will tell you how to make a simple DIY cuticle oil without any mineral oil or other chemicals that most cuticle oils have. And the best thing is that you can apply this oil whenever you want, only to the cuticle area so that it wont spread or stain.
Things you need: Empty lip-gloss bottle, olive oil/almond oil, vitamin E capsules/oil, essential oils of your choice (optional, I used lavender and jojoba oils).
Clean and dry the lipgloss bottle. If you don’t have one, use a dropper bottle, but glass bottles are not travel friendly and dropper application can be a bit messy. It is best to use empty lipgloss bottle since the applicator helps in precise applying of oil only to the cuticle area. Also they are travel safe and wont leak because they are designed to hold liquid inside without leaking.
Fill half of a LG bottle with almond oil. Add essential oils if you have them, 2-3 drops. Cuticle oil is ready!
Fill half bottle of a LG bottle with olive oil. Add one vitamin E capsule or a 1/2 tsp of vitamin E oil. Add essential oil of your choice.
You can use this oil on cuticles of both fingers and toes whenever you remember about it! The biggest advantage is that it wont stop you from doing activities like eating, using keyboard etc since the application is precise and not on whole hand. Happy cuticles and healthy nails.
